11/27 Tuesday's Objectives:
AS A CLASS: UNDERSTANDING the Basics of Landscapes:
- DO THIS: Google search large image " ________ in a ______ field" or " ________ in a river"
Example: "Horse in a flower field" or "Woman fishing in a river"
- DO THIS: Roxy will then open that Image in Photoshop on Full Screen
In your Sketchbooks, please add the following notes:
The foreground, middle ground, and background in a composition are generally divided into three planes. The foreground of a composition is the visual plane that appears closest to the viewer, while the background is the plane in a composition perceived furthest from the viewer. The middle ground is the visual plane located between both the foreground and background. The scale of these components often correlates to the dominance in an image. The foreground is often the most dominant due to the larger perceived scale of the images objects. This is not always the case, however, as definition and other factors can shift the dominance of the composition.
Visually, we often refer to the scale of one object to another.

- As objects come forward in space, towards the viewer, they appear larger, thicker, defining lines, more textured.
- As they recede into the background, their scale gets perceptually smaller, thinner lines, less clarity of details.
Mini Project: Create a landscape utilizing digital art skills and incorporating basic art theories such as
Foreground, Middle ground and Background Scale & Proportion Techniques
Timeline: Project introduced & started Tuesday. Work time will continue Thursday and Friday. Friday is our deadline.
YOUR TASK: Build a clearly labeled foreground, middle ground and background landscape in Photoshop using only the compressed files (ZIP files) linked below:
STEPS for extracting these files:
- ____ In your Digital Art Folder on the Drive File Stream create a folder titled, "Distance & Proportion Landscape"
- ____ Then EXTRACT this folder from your download folder to that new folder
- Right click on the zipped folder > 7 zip > extract files... > Choose your Distance & Proportion Landscape Folder on the Drive File Stream
