Objectives & Project Roll Out
1. GROUP ACTIVITY: Self Portrait Project Introduction
- A Self Portrait is a portrait an artist makes using himself/herself/themself as its Subject, typically drawn, painted or photographed.
- Background info on Self Portraits: Since the Renaissance, artists have used self-portraits to explore a basic question: Who am I? While a mirror can reflect what a person looks like, that physical reflection does not reflect the whole self. Self Portraiture insists the artist embark on journey or self exploration in order to make decisions about how to represent him/her/themself authentically. For each self portrait, the artist must ask:
- What Expression, Posture, Clothing, Background, Colors, Texture, and Style BEST EXPRESS the REAL ME? Might those answers be different at any given time.
- ARTIST YOU SHOULD KNOW (when it comes to self portraits) - ANDY WARHOL
- Watch the following two films to better understand why and how artists create self portraits:

2. Absorb Self Portrait Content by actively participating in LECTURE & taking NOTES: Self Portrait PowerPoint
- Students will take turns reading through each slide, out loud to entire class
- Take notes in your sketchbook or on a google doc! Or make a Copy of the Google Slide and add comments on the slides directly to write down thoughts or interesting facts. It's not up to a college professor to engage you while in class! Take notes or doodle some "take away's" while we sit behind our screens!
